In the coming weeks, GP Surgeries and Social Security will be trialling the use of digital medical certificates.
Patients will be able to receive their medical certificates online and via a mobile device and use those to claim benefits online and send the employers copy to their place of work without delay. Should the trial be successful it is anticipated that this will remove the need for paper versions.
Employers will be able to ascertain the reason for an employee’s absence much more quickly. The new digital certificate will also enable GPs to provide employers with more information as to how they can support their staff back into work as quickly as possible.
