Our client, Guernsey Finance are looking for a Communications Director to promote and connect Guernsey as a leading finance centre in its chosen markets.
Introduction
This role leads the development and delivery of communications that position s Guernsey as a leading global financial centre across target markets.
Objectives
Proactive reputation building and positioning
To proactively position Guernsey as a credible, responsible, and forward -looking global financial centre by developing and delivering clear, consistent, and compelling communications that build long-term reputational capital across priority markets, audiences, and stakeholders.
Reputation management and risk response
To lead the effective management of reputational risk by ensuring Guernsey Finance can respond quickly, clearly, and authoritatively to issues, threats, or negative scrutiny, mitigating potential impact and protecting Guernsey’s standing in the global marketplace through well -judged, timely, and proportionate communications.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a communications strategy and plans aligned with the Guernsey’s overall financial services strategy and GF ’s promotional mandate.
- Articulate clear and compelling promotional messages.
- Ensure communications and marketing activity are aligned, integrated and mutually reinforcing across campaigns, events and digital channels.
- Be proficient and proactive in interacting with press and external stakeholders.
- Work with local , financial trade , international and other commercial media.
- Provide strategic direction, oversight and performance management of external PR, communications and related agencies, ensuring alignment with GF strategy, values and KPIs and evaluating effectiveness, value for money and strategic contribution.
- Ensure that the CEO and other GF spokespeople have maximum opportunity to communicate key messages through all major media channels regularly in line with the communications plans agreed.
- Provide media training to senior leadership and spokespeople.
- Lead crisis and issues communications when required.
- Work with the CEO to strengthen awareness and appreciation of GF’s work within the States of Guernsey and GIBA.
- Provide strategic advice on communications, reputational risk and emerging issues.
- Work with senior internal and external leadership including States of Guernsey, GIBA, GFSC, TheCityUK and the Financial Times.
Management
The CD will act as line manager of the Communications team and, dependent on the candidate experience could be a member of the S enior Management Team (SMT) of GF.
- Provide strong leadership and management of the communications team, fostering high performance, accountability and professional development .
- Oversee content quality across digital, social and publication channels.
- Define, monitor and report against communications KPIs and performance metrics.
- Use insight and data to inform decision -making, refine messaging and demonstrate impact to the Board and stakeholders .
- Provide clear, high -level reporting and analysis to senior management and the Board
- Communicate effectively with other function heads and play a role in the coordination of activities .
- Be a constructive and interactive member of the Senior Management Team (SMT).
- Strong organisation skills across the Communications role, and within SMT.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience of operating in a values led way, with a strong personal commitment to professionalism, integrity, respect, and ethical practice in all aspects of communications and stakeholder engagement.
- Senior experience in communications, PR, journalism or corporate affairs.
- Chartered PR Practitioner and member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), or at minimum a current member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
- Understanding and interest in Guernsey’s financial services sector.
- Proven ability to deliver strategic communications and manage reputational risk.
- Confident adviser and spokesperson with strong commercial and political awareness.
- Experience engaging senior stakeholders.

- Strategic, clear thinker with excellent written and verbal communication.
- Effective stakeholder and reputation manager with sound judgement and diplomacy.
- Able to simplify complex information for varied audiences.
- Strong planning and project -management abilities.
- Good digital communications knowledge, including ethical AI use.
- Familiarity with data protection principles would be an advantage.
