If you're new to the world of work we can help you in preparing for the world of work by:

Helping you to prepare your CV
Write down your education, experience, skills and any professional or academic organisations you belong to. Think through the purpose of each job, your responsibilities and the results you achieved. Make sure your CV is clear and easy to read, the more obvious you make your skills the more likely employers are to pick your CV out in their selection process.

Helping prepare you for interview
Research the company you are going to see, understand what the company do and prepare some questions which you can ask.

Research the role you are being interviewed for, find out how the job became available and what sort of training or promotional opportunities they will provide you with.

Understand why you want the position, what skills you can bring to the role and any examples from previous experiences which show your initiative.

Look at what you've enjoyed or not enjoyed about jobs in the past and what your strengths and weaknesses are.

At your interview
Be sure to remember these useful tips:
  • Remove coats, bags, scarves, etc.
  • If you are offered a drink accept it, it may help you concentrate and wet your mouth if you start to stumble.
  • Smile, be pleasant to people you meet.
  • Relax and make sure you are honest about your experience.
  • Dress the part, keep your clothes simple but smart, make sure your hair is neat, shoes polished, hands clean and breath is fresh.
If you don't get the job don't give up, put the interviews down to experience and learn from the comments made surrounding your interview.
